有名なクインシー・ジョーンズの元夫人で、紅茶のリプトン家の令嬢でもある女優としても知られる彼女の唯一のアルバム。アレンジにジャズファンにはおなじみのピアニスト、アレンジャーのマーティ・ペイチ(Marty Paich)、バックはレッキング・クルー、プロデュースはルー・アドラー(Lou Adler)。彼女自身の曲の他ローラ・ニーロ(Laura Nyro)やキャロル・キング(Carole King)のカバーなど名曲ばかりの傑作盤。

リバーサイドのオムニバスの1枚の中ですべての曲が未発表な貴重な1枚。タイトル曲の「Blues for tomorrow」というのはこれはセロニアス・モンクの名盤「Monk’s music」時のセッションですがモンクがいません。モンクを待っている間でのセッションということです。軽いウォーミングアップ風の演奏ながらメンツがメンツ、なかなか良いパンチがゴンゴンと出てくるところがやっぱりちがうといった感じです。全員がソロを取っておりやっぱりコルトレーンのソロなんか見逃せないんじゃないでしょうか。B1のソニー・ロリンズも途中ユーモアのあるフレーズを挟みこみながら飄々と吹いているところが素晴らしい好演です。
